Valoria is an ancient human realm whose people are descended from the barbarian tribes known as the Andels who made this lush river valley their home. The kings of Valoria have gone through periods of territorial ambitions and are therefore distrusted by some of their smaller neighbors. The crowns greatest ally in the region remains its largest vassal state, the Duchy of Orlandie nestled in the foothills of the Mystic Mountains. The realm of Valoria enjoys a diverse climate. The northern portion tends to be more seasonal with cold winters and warm summers. The southern portion tends to be more temperate and generally receives more rainfall.
The Andelie River valley is very fertile and supports great tracts of farmland and diverse wildlife. The folk of this realm are a simple yet pleasant lot that will welcome strangers and help those in need. The area also supports a rather significant area of dense woodland known as the Grandwood, the northern portion of which is claimed by the Valorian kings, though in name only.
The region has known many years of peace and prosperity. Certainly, the key to this success comes from the support of an elite group of spellcasters known as the Astromancers. Unlike many Aldarians, the Valorians have always valued divination magic and rely on this spellform to detect and prevent future problems that might arise. These powerful mages, wizards and sorcerers are highly adept at divination magic and at interpreting the stars and constellations. It is said that the king won't make any major decisions without first consulting this council of knowledgable seers and mystics. The Astromancers are also credited with predicting the Great Plague of 640 that ravaged much of Meridia and the realms far to the east. With foreknowledge of this disaster, the clerics and administrators of Valoria were able to take certain precautions that severely diminished the effects of the plague in the river valley.
Rumors: A powerful dragon noble known as Gloredhel resides in a hidden shrine deep in the Mystic Mountains. The king has been known to lead occasional pilgrimages to the shrine to seek council from this most wise of dragon sages. The king also lends monetary support to the Shield March, a vassal of Rendore, since the march lands have served as a first line of defense against the forces of Argonak and thus protected Valoria from invasion as well. One of the reclusive Khordan Oracles dwells near the city of Hillshire. Commoners from all over the northern provinces seek aid from this perceptive cleric in many matters.
