Nythalia is a peaceful kingdom dedicated to the Huanese goddess Niamye, the goddess of peace and mercy. Hers is the dominant cult in this land and all citizens will join a local monastery at some point during their lives for peaceful meditation and a quest for greater spiritual enlightenment. Each individual is given the freedom to decide when and for how long they wise to join. The picturesque countryside is dotted with monastaries and convents and peaceful bamboo groves.
The folk of this land were not always so passive and were once a violent and highly emotional people. Early in the 4th century a warlord-tyrant who sought to conquer the neighboring kingdoms and control most of the East came to power and led the Nythalese to war. Fortunately, his plans ultimately failed mainly due to the efforts of a pacifist monk of Niamye. Brother Shindrah taught the peasants the way of enrichment through true peace and tranquility. His philosophy was quickly spread through the war-torn kingdom and the people embraced the concept of non-violence. They turned their efforts to building stone temples and monuments of great beauty rather than strongholds and weapons of war. Many learned the crafts of the ancients including pottery, weaving and art. The serenity of these lands has long been the envy of the surrounding kingdoms for centuries.
The ruling family has come from a powerful dynasty that has ruled these lands for centuries. Many of the scions of the family have been powerful priestesses and priests of Niamye who have served as wealthy patrons to numerous temples dedicated to their goddess.
Rumors: Recently, some unknown evil has begun to plague the peaceful people of Nythalia. Diviners of the Royal Court have uncovered it to be some ancient evil but its actual source has remained elusive. Some of the peasants of the more remote villages have reported the sightings of demons that appear during the night and either butchered or kidnapped the members of the townsfolk right out of their own homes.
