Kaishu is a great and ancient empire built at the foothills of the Dragonspire Mountains far to the east. It is the largest nation in all of Hyerune and the Sage-Emperor is the absolute ruler of the land. His commands are obeyed without question. He uses a system of bureaucrats however to run the everyday affairs of state as well as the Imperial Household. This region was once divided into many minor kingdoms and principalities but all are now united and dependent on the Dragon Throne. The climate varies through the empire. The more fertile land can be found along the southeastern quadrant. The weather tends to be the most pleasant and the area reserves moderate rainfall throughout much of the year. Most of the population is likewise centered in this area. The farther one moves from the Southeast, the more dramatic the changes in climate. The biggest extreme being the Scorched Lands of the Northwest, a desert region inhabited mainly by peaceful nomads and orcish tribes.
The culture of Kaishu has been strongly influenced by the race of dragons. The Imperial Family, in fact, is said to have actual dragon blood flowing through their veins. Kaishu legends tell the tale of a courtship between a beautiful Huanese princess and a noble courtier from a "kingdom from across the sea." The courtier proved to be a scoundrel and is said to have ravaged the princess before disappearing from the country entirely. It turned out, according to the legends, that the courtier was actually a typhoon dragon in human form. The union result in a birth of triplets, one of which was the great ancestor of the current ruling dynasty.
Many members of the Imperial Family still exhibit physical anomolies that betray their draconic heritage. This has been interpreted as a sign of divine grace from the peasants of the empire and the Sage-emperor and his family have been widely accepted for many generations. The emperors of old have always maintained a Summer Palace near Jinjiang used as a retreat and as a way to be close to what they refer to as their Great Ancestors- the dragons of Dragonspire.
Rumors:The barbarians of the Horde Raiders to the north of the Ash Mountains have long proved to be a thorn in the side of the Empire. The Sage-emperor continues the greatest legecy of his family in the building of the Wall of Solitude, a barrier of stone, earth and magical walls of force running the line of the Northern frontier as an attempt to impede the barbarians from any direct assaults. A mysterious figure known only as the Lady of Mists has been appearing recently to the humble fisherfolk near Pangu. She is said to be an ancient sea spirtfolk endowed with great powers of divination and insight.
