Bengalia is actually a collection of hundreds of petty principalities loosely governed under the authority of the Padishah. In truth, the Padishah holds very little influence outside his royal demesne centered around the capital city of Varuna. The minor states are each governed by a prince, raja or shah who have complete autonomy within their own territories. Each is as varied from the others as the stars in the sky and each maintains its own fighting force. The country as a whole has a semi-tropical to tropical climate with very hot and humid weather almost all year round. The winter is considered the rainy season and the eastern coastline will often be innundated with seasonal monsoons blowing in from the Cerulean Sea.

The south central portion of the country is much more arid than the coastline or the northern regions and generally does not get as much rainfall. In the summer, the ground is almost liked baked clay. The Northern portions of the country are a bit more arable and most of the farming is done in this region. The north central portion of the country is dominated by the Muhgahli Jungle.

The lands of Bengalia have been swept up by foreign invaders on several occasions during the country's long and illustrious history. Each time the invaders settle into the various domains and are themselves incorporated by the Bengalese culture and outlook. Twice in its history the previous Padishahs have been able to unite the various nobles under a common banner to expel greater outside threats. The unification never lasts long, however, and the lords soon exert their independence.

Rumors:- One of the princes of a distant northern province is said to actually be a disguised rakshasa. The capital city of Varuna is plagued by a villianous group calling themselves the "Order of the Otyugh." These foul "knights" are all followers of Jaladhi, the mistress of rats, and include numerous criminals and thugs. A wise and powerful priestess of Khorda resides in the coastal city of Raval. Many of the peasant population flock to her sanctuary seeking information of their future.
